The economy continues to dominate boardroom conversations as much as daily news headlines. Because the responsibility of nonprofit board members has changed considerably from a few years ago, community volunteers must actively stay informed of industry changes and new requirements governing nonprofit organizations and their role as nonprofit board members. The Hawai`i Community Foundation is pleased to present BREAKING BOARDOM BOARD LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2010 to support Hawaii’s many volunteers in their role as nonprofit board members.

PROPOSED WORKSHOPS (SUBJECT TO CHANGE):

     * Social Media Boot Camp - bit.ly, blogs, tweets, friendfeed? Recognize these? For some, it could be a foreign language. Social media: is it a fad or trend? What role, if any, does social media have for nonprofits? Get the "30,000 foot view" and learn how new media applications can help your organization. 

    * Collaboration: A Strategy for Surviving in Tough Times - Collaboration is more than a buzzword: it's a process that gets people to work together in new ways. It offers the change to access resources, innovate, and leverage outcomes in ways no single organization can do by itself. But, it also has its own set of challenges. 

    * Successful Strategies for Tough Times - There's no silver bullet to help organizations survive and thrive in hard times, but being aware of the wide range of strategic responses is critical. This session offers practical strategies in each of four critical categories: increasing revenues, cost-cutting ideas, structural changes, and engagement/collaboration strategies.  

    * Making Fund Raising Work in a Down Economy - Every nonprofit is facing fund raising challenges. Here's a look at traditional fund raising strategies and creating new revenue streams.
