About Me

My name is Kimberly Selden founder and CEO of Hawaii Helps Disabilities, Inc and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in October 1996. In 2004 I realized that I was having vision problems and my MS was advancing when my husband Stewart I moved to Hawaii.  This was a huge wake up call for us, it really put me into a tremendous state of depression but I knew that I could not stay depressed forever.

I started a team for the annual MS Walk here in Honolulu and named it Team Mighty Selden for Team MS.  Team Mighty Selden saw remarkable growth in both member participation and fundraising in the last two years. Factors contributing to the success of the Team include the tremendous community support we have received and with our Team’s drive; continuous support from our church and their family and friends; and adding a “personal touch” to everything that I do. Team Mighty Selden was distinctively noticed at the Honolulu Walk MS as a sea of red by the t-shirts each member wore.

Team Mighty Selden has participated in the Honolulu Walk MS fundraising event for two years, has 123 walkers, raised over $10,883.00 and is the largest team in the state of Hawaii for 2008.

I continued to carry on this drive to help people with Multiple Sclerosis, so much so,  that my husband Stewart and I felt that we needed to develop an organization to do just that.  Hawaii Helps Multiple Sclerosis, Inc was birthed on May 12th 2008.  My vision to see HHMS become a non profit organization, an amazing charity and to raise money through fundraising and recieve private donations.

On December 19th 2008 the new founded board of directors and I changed the name to Hawaii Helps Disabilities, Inc so that we can offer help to all those who have some sort of a disability.

"showing the world that we need to treat people with disabilities as people, where we don't see their disability, we just see the person". ~Kimberly Selden
